Meet Our Veterinarians
Dr. Mark Wadstrom and Dr. Kimberly Noel
Mark Wadstrom and Kimberly Noel are the co-owners of the Animal Care Center of Salem. They met at Ross University while attending its Veterinary School, were married in 1992, and are the proud parents of Christine, Christopher, and Jacob. When they aren’t at ACCS, they tend to an extensive menagerie that currently includes eight dogs, three cats, three miniature donkeys, three Haflinger ponies, one paint mare, a bearded dragon, and thirteen goats. Drs. Wadstrom and Noel both have vast experience rearing Golden Retrievers, and have donated puppies from litters they’ve raised to the St. Francis Service Dog Foundation. They’re unique in that they’re two of the few veterinarians in the Roanoke and Salem area who offer breeding and artificial insemination consultations.
Dr. Wadstrom
Mark Wadstrom was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in Los Alamos, New Mexico. After graduating from New Mexico State University with a B.S. in Animal Science and double minors in Biochemistry and Biology, Dr. Wadstrom decided to pursue veterinary medicine and earned a DVM from Ross University in 1992. He frequently performs ultrasounds, dental procedures, endoscopies, and complex orthopedic or exploratory surgeries. During his free time, Dr. Wadstrom enjoys water and snow skiing, backpacking and hiking, horseback riding, scuba diving, and spending time with his family.
Dr. Noel
Kimberly Noel is a Roanoke native who graduated from Cave Spring High School, earned her B.A. in Biology from Virginia Intermont College, and graduated cum laude from Ross University in 1990. Before settling back in the Roanoke region, Dr. Noel practiced veterinary medicine in Oklahoma, New Orleans, and Virginia Beach. Dr. Noel loves to train dogs, read, hang out with her children, and grab a nap whenever she can. Dr. Noel has also been an avid horsewoman her whole life, and participated in Hunter/Jumper and dressage competitions as a child. To this day, she still enjoys saddling up and going for trail rides.
Kim Van Miller, DVM
Dr. Van Miller is a graduate of the University of Delaware and Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Van Miller has been a member of the Animal Care Center Staff since 2007 and has proven to be an invaluable addition to our veterinary team.
When not working, Dr. Van Miller enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, and pups, Molly & Strider. She enjoys relaxing by means of reading, kayaking, or cross-stitching. Although a Blacksburg area resident now, Dr. Van Miller hails from Wisconsin.
Meet Our Staff
Office Manager
Sherry has been at this facility for 30 years – even before Dr.’s Wadstrom and Noel purchased it. It comes as no surprise that she is the go-to person for many of the supporting needs of the clinic. Not only does Sherry handle all of the internal accounting but she manages the office as well. Sherry has 2 sons, a beautiful granddaughter and a grandson on the way; and 3 dogs, Ace, Scooter and Hans. Sherry was born and raised in Salem, and has been married for many years to husband Marty. In her free time, she enjoys crafting. There really isn’t anything in the clinic that Sherry isn’t willing or able to help with so we know how lucky we are to have her!
Licensed Veterinary Technicians
April: We are spo blessd to have April as our head LVT. The clinic would not run as smoothly without her and we know how much our patients live her! She originally started at ACCS back in 1998 as a kennel attendant and has been with us in various capacities on and off since then. She is a 1992 graduate of Glenvar High School and a 1996 grad of Virginia Tech. She attended the prestigious Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in Denver, Co in 1999 and remained out west for a number of years. She has worked as a LVT in small animal practices, a emergency/referral practice (you may have seen her on Emergency Vets on the Animal Planet a number of years ago), and in shelter medicine. When not working at the clinic she is Mom to 5 wonderful kids, 3 dogs, 1 cat and whatever else wanders across her path! (Oh, and she’s a pretty terrific wife according to her husband.)

Veterinary Assistants
Son of our office manager, Austin is one of the family. Austin has a cute little terrier partner in crime, Hans, who is always up for fun! Whether he’s filling-in in the kennel or working with clients as an assistant, Austin is always ready and willing to help. Austin has a good sense of humor and has been with ACCS for several years.
Lauren has been with ACCS since 2016! She grew up in Roanoke, Virginia graduating from Cave Spring High School. She is currently at Roanoke College studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry with a minor in Psychology. She lives with her two cats, Maisie and Delilah, both of whom she adopted as kittens. So, she very much has a sweet spot for all the cats that come through ACCS! Lauren is a member of the co-ed service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, on the Roanoke College campus and often uses her free time to volunteer for different causes or events. In addition to this, she enjoys spending time with her kitties and her boyfriend, reading, rollerblading on occasion, and watching shows such as Bones or Law & Order SVU. She hope to continue a career path involving animals and is very much enjoying her time at ACCS and we are very lucky to have her!
